USPTO Trademark Fees to Increase beginning

Act Now to Secure Less Expensive Filing Fees

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) has announced upcoming fee increases, which will take effect for trademarks on January 18, 2025. With these changes just around the corner, now is an excellent time to act if you are planning to apply for a trademark. Submitting your application before the fee increase could result in a more cost-effective filing.
The USPTO updates its fee schedule every two years to recover the total cost of trademark operations. One fundamental upcoming change is the discontinuation of the TEAS Standard and TEAS Plus discounts. Starting January 18, 2025, all applications must meet the previous TEAS Plus requirements, or will be subject to a per class surcharge of $100. For example, an application filed without a verified statement would be subject to the surcharge. Additional fees of $200 per class will also apply if you plan to use free-form identifications not listed in the ID Manual (as currently allowed under TEAS Standard application).
This final rule establishes or adjusts 28 trademark fees, with changes applying to various aspects of trademark applications. Below are some of the main fee adjustments (excluding fees for paper filings). At this time, the USPTO is not increasing its fees for Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings.
